Front page inspired this. The US market is way more expensive than the UK market. Here is a good example. This Mini Cooper S is $500 less than what i payed for, but 4,000 less than the average Cooper in the United States

I’m sure it’s worth an absolute mint since Brits were never afforded the pleasure of buying a 2006 Mercury Mariner. USDM BABY!!!

Let’s raise the stakes. Check your car’s price in Singapore.

The UK market is weird, due to RHD and other factors. You should rather use continental Europe as a comparison.

A ‘63 1/2 fastback Galaxie went for 10,000 pounds on Gumtree, and a ‘66 wagon in rougher shape than my car went for nearly 9,000, so my sedan is likely worth at least 8. Which is far, far more than it’s worth here.
My Rover is obviously worth much less over there. My Benz would likely be as well. The Lincoln and the Ranchero, I couldn’t begin to guess.

My 997.2 C4GTS is worth somewhere north of $170 k in the EU.
Closest comparison currently on the market: https://www.gumtree.com/p/porsche/2011-11-porsche-911-997-3.8-carrera-gts-pdk-coupe/1315533579
$84,167USD, roughly. But this has body damage (front bumper is drilled, no bueno) and is a PDK. 6 speeds run a 20-30% premium on these. There are exactly 19 C4GTS 6 speed coupes in the UK. (Thanks, MOT!) That’s it. 19.
There are two 997.2 C2GTS 6 speeds for sale, both lesser optioned than mine. This is the closest C2GTS comparison: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201808159525464?year-from=2011&sort=sponsored&model=911&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&make=PORSCHE&advertising-location=at_cars&price-from=500&year-to=2012&transmission=Manual&page=1
$99k USD.
But I’d have to sell into a LHD country. That generally means Germany and German-speaking countries. Here is a PDK C4GTS LHD for Germany.
$144,128.20USD. Tack on the 20% premium for being an unmolested 3-pedal, that’s $173k.

Ye’, the thing came about from an article on Jalopnik that a very similar car (2002 Lexus IS300 Sportcross ) went for £500 while he paid $ 10,250 in the U.S.

This is about the closest I could find. Lots of 2nd gens but only one 3rd gen and it’s a diesel!
https://www.gumtree.com/p/toyota/toyota-hilux-surf-/1320194373
Some conversion and it’s about $3300. Similarly optioned ones in the states can be had for anywhere in the $4000-$10000 range depending on miles and creature comforts.

My VW T4 Transporter Dual Cab 2.5 TDi Syncro is 17 years old and getting quite rare in the UK. It'd probably get around 6000 to 8000 quid which means it'd be worth about the same as what it's worth here.

BRB, shipping four smart cars to Singapore.
So this is how I can build the ultimate collection of smart cars and bikes. Buy > Sell to Singapore > Buy more > Sell to Singapore > Rinse and repeat = One day be insane Jay Leno clone.

It would be diesel - they all are anywhere in Europe and much of the world as well!
![]() 11/13/2018 at 16:10 |

I knew they sold them in diesel, but most of the 2nd gens I found had the terrible 3.0L gas motor
